Flavor Fade and When a Coil Is Done
Expect flavor to soften late in the tank. If it turns burnt, mute, or generic in the first third, the coil lost. Stop using a pod that tastes scorched.
Every coil has a useful window. High-capacity tanks stretch that window. They do not erase it. A device can earn an A and still taste flatter on the last day than it did on the first. That is not a contradiction. It is how heaters and liquid work.

Normal fade
Toward the end of a large pod, sweetness gets flatter. Ice notes get louder or weirder. Mixed fruit turns into “sweet.” Mint loses the leaf and keeps the cold. That is expected. We note it. It rarely kills an otherwise good grade.
Normal fade is gradual. You notice it when you think back to day one, not when you take the next draw. The device is still doing the job. You are simply closer to the end of the useful window.
Boost shortens that window. Eco stretches it. If you live on the loud setting, you will meet fade sooner. That is a mode choice, not a hidden defect. Modes are covered in Eco, Boost, and multi-wattage modes.
Early fade
If the named flavor is gone in the first days, or Boost makes it taste hot and empty while most of the tank is still full, that is a coil or liquid problem. That does kill a grade.
Early fade is the difference between a dual-mesh kit that earns its capacity and a bar that only tastes good in the photo. Coil type can help flavor hold. It cannot invent it. When a review on this site says flavor stayed consistent across a long cycle, that sentence is doing work. When it says two profiles collapsed into generic sweetness before the battery had been charged twice, that sentence is doing more work than the puff count on the sleeve.
Burnt
Scorched, peppery, or dry hits mean the wick is not keeping up or the element is done. Stop. Finishing the tank after that point does not save money. It just tastes worse.
Draw-activated devices will keep firing after the coil is tired. The hardware does not know you are unhappy. A screen that still shows liquid does not mean the heater is still fit for the liquid that remains.
A burnt hit is not “character.” It is the end of the useful window, arriving early or on time. If it arrives early on Eco, the device has a problem. If it arrives at the bottom of a long tank after mixed use, that is the ordinary death of a coil.
What we can and cannot see
We taste the profiles we have in hand. We do not pretend we ran a 20-flavor line. Method: how we test a device. If a review names Blue Razz Ice and Spearmint, those are the notes you can trust. Silence about a flavor you care about means we did not have it, not that it lasted forever.
We also cannot see inside the coil. Resistance is rarely printed on sealed and modular bars, and we do not invent an ohm reading to sound technical. When Boost gets harsh and Eco does not, that is the reviewable fact. The heater story underneath belongs on the coil page, not in a guess.
How this hits the grade
Fade notes support the letter. They do not replace it. A device can be an A with honest late fade. A device with early collapse does not get an A because the wrap said dual mesh or 50K.
The question is still the same: after living with it, would an adult vaper be glad they bought it? The key is how Vape Verdict grades work. Flavor hold is evidence. The letter is the verdict.
Structure still matters for what you do next. A sealed bar that tastes burnt is finished. A modular pod that tastes burnt can be swapped while you keep the cell. That split is sealed vs modular vs refillable. Neither structure makes scorched liquid taste better.
Reviews such as the American Standard 50K use this standard in the body: flavor that holds across a long pod is a pro, early collapse would have been a con, and the 50,000-puff claim is not asked to referee the taste.
